Mercedes clinched the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship in Sunday’s São Paulo Grand Prix, as a fourth-place finish from George Russell and a fifth-place finish from Drivers’ Champion Kimi Antonelli were enough to secure the title ahead of Ferrari.

And the team celebrated with a first on the F1 grid.

The first “Gatorade dunk” in the sport’s history.

Russell and Mercedes Deputy Team Principal Bradley Lord got their hands on a gatorade bucket, dousing Team Principal Toto Wolff with the drink. A moment synonymous with big sports wins across the sporting spectrum has now made its way to F1:

The celebration came as Wolff was in the middle of an interview with Sky Sports F1.

The title is the ninth Constructors’ Championship for both Mercedes, and Wolff. That pulls the team level with Williams, and pulls Wolff level with the legendary Sir Frank Williams on the list of all-time winners for teams, and team principals.

“It’s amazing,” Wolff said to Sky Sports F1. “We have taken a few years to be back at the top spot. Not many teams have been able to come back from such a situation and it just shows the great work, the great people we have in our organisation and it’s great to be among them.”

And it’s great to be soaked in Gatorade by them, as well.
