The Giants have reportedly made their choice for this week’s starting quarterback.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that J.J. McCarthy will get the nod over Jameis Winston for Sunday’s game in Houston. It will be McCarthy’s first start since being acquired in a trade with the Vikings earlier this season.
McCarthy replaced Winston with the Giants down 34-10 to the Saints in the fourth quarter last Sunday. He went 11-of-21 for 243 yards, a touchdown and an interception while leading the Giants back within 34-27, and he had the Giants inside the New Orleans 15-yard-line before their final drive ended with an incompletion on fourth down.
McCarthy missed his rookie season with the Vikings after injuring his knee and made 10 starts between multiple injuries in his second season. The Vikings opted to bring in Kyler Murray during the offseason, but he has an opportunity for an extended run as the Giants try to stay atop the NFC East in the wake of Jaxson Dart’s torn ACL.
