The Boston Red Sox saw their season end in disastrous fashion as they were eliminated in the Wild Card round of the American League playoffs by their archrivals, the New York Yankees. The Red Sox lost two one-sided games at Yankee Stadium, and their once-promising year came to a halting conclusion.
The Red Sox simply did not have enough hitting in the series as they could not get one hit when they had a runner in scoring position. That's a far cry from the way the Red Sox played during their 32-5 hot streak during the middle of the season.
During that hot streak, the Red Sox got contributions up and down the lineup. Key performers Willson Contreras, Wilyer Abreu and Ceddanne Rafaela got hits and so did unheralded players like Mickey Gasper, Andruw Monasterio and Nick Sogard.

Gasper could not play in the postseason because he suffered an arm injury in the final week of the season. He tore his biceps and the Red Sox announced he underwent surgery at MassGeneral to repair the damage.
While it is not known what Gasper's role with the Red Sox will be in the 2027 season, it will take four to six months to recover from the injury. Gasper says he plans to be ready to swing a bat again by March 1, which would given him less than a full month to prepare for the upcoming season.
