The New York Rangers watched in horror as Igor Shesterkin suffered an injury on Friday night. Shesterkin is one of the best goaltenders in the NHL. He was in the midst of a dominant start to the season, as well. His injury, no matter how long he's out for, is a significant one.

The Rangers lost to the Capitals on Friday night. Washington won the game off a costly mistake from Cole Beaudoin in the second period. Though they could not pick up the win, captain J.T. Miller still liked how his team competed after Shesterkin's exit.

“We're not going to let [Igor's injury] take the wind out of our sails. We still competed our a***s off today,” the New York captain said, via Mollie Walker of The New York Post.

The Rangers opened the scoring on Friday night thanks to Alexis Lafreniere. His fourth of the season came on the power play, and it gave them a 1-0 lead heading into the second period. In the second, the Capitals tied it before Shesterkin left the contest.

After his exit, Beaudoin's errant pass led to a Capitals goal. Boone Jenner scored his first goal as a member of the Caps to make it 2-1. In the third period, Washington iced the game with a Tom Wilson empty net goal.

New York certainly made the Capitals work for this win. They dominated Washington in the faceoff circle. And they got good goaltending from Dylan Garand in Shesterkin's stead. Hopefully, the Rangers get a positive update on Shesterkin before their next contest.
