Anyone who has followed the WNBA, even in a casual manner, over the past few years have heard everything there is to criticize about Angel Reese. Her shooting inefficiency. Her tendency to pad her rebounding totals with her own misses. Her purported disproportionate level of fame compared to her actual skill level. All of these have made her a lighting rod for vitriol from the sporting world. But the Atlanta Dream star does not care about all of that, not even for a little bit — especially now that she's headed to the WNBA Finals.
On Friday night, the Dream secured their spot in the 2026 WNBA Finals by sweeping the New York Liberty, a team with proud champions such as Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, and Jonquel Jones, courtesy of an 85-83 victory on the road in Game 3. Reese, for all of her alleged shortcomings on the basketball court, led her team in scoring with 22 points to go along with nine rebounds, three assists, one steal, and two blocks.
Considering how much vitriol she's received even dating back to her days in college, millions of apology forms must be filled out to be handed to the Dream star, according to Jemele Hill of The Atlantic.
“Let the apologies be as loud as the disrespect. Whole ‘lotta people owe Angel Reese an apology,” Hill wrote on her official account on X.
Article Continues BelowIt's a testament to Reese and the entire Dream squad that they managed to close out the Liberty despite missing their best scorer, Allisha Gray, who was out for both Game 2 and Game 3 due to an injury.
Reese is an all-time great rebounder and she's an incredible defender as well. She does all the dirty work that any team needs to win, and now that her offense is coming around, she is rounding into quite the good two-way player. And now, the Dream are just four wins away from being crowned champion.
