During Monday's SWAC Coaches Call, Prairie View A&M coach Tremaine Jackson went scorched earth on the media. Jackson started by saying outside criticism doesn’t bother Prairie View because, inside the program, the staff tells players the media doesn’t matter.

“Look, it doesn’t bother us what people say, because inside of our organization, we always say, ‘Y’all don’t matter.’ Who is media? What is the media for? How does the media get first downs or collect third downs?”

He then questioned the accuracy of what’s reported about his program and who is ranking recruits.

“Half the time the media is lying. And it’s no disrespect to what you guys do, but of the stories that I read, I get told more about our program from the media of things that don’t happen than things that actually are happening, right? Who ranks people? Who ranks recruiting classes? Probably a bunch of guys that ain’t playing football, ’cause they got time to rank people.”

Jackson said he understands the media’s role but insisted that outside opinions don’t determine Prairie View’s success.

“It’s no disrespect to what you do, because we need the media, right? I get it. But nobody in Prairie View, Texas, nobody cares about what y’all say. Especially not us in football. Y’all don’t determine our success. Nobody determines our success besides the people in our locker room that walk out there between the lines. Our fans don’t determine our success. Our alums don’t determine our success. Only the people that walk out there between the lines determine the success.”

Jackson said Prairie View is too far into the season to ease up, and he’s looking at Saturday’s 2 p.m. game as the real test.

“We’re too far along, man. We’re not feeding baby giraffes around here, right? We gotta go. So Saturday at two o’clock, I’m gonna find out. I’m gonna beat the media. I’m gonna find out what we gonna do too, ’cause I’m gonna stand on the sideline and watch some dudes play, and we either gonna play well or we’re not.”

He added that the program doesn’t use outside commentary as motivation.

“I do appreciate seeing some of the things. We don’t use what’s said either as motivation to prove people wrong. ‘Oh, they said that this team is better.’ Nobody cares about that. You watch the tape. You know what they can and can’t do. It is what it is.”

Jackson also said he finds HBCU media coverage entertaining, comparing it to a soap opera.

“I think it’s fun, man. Watching y’all on the media is like watching The Young and the Restless. Victor Newman and them. My grandma used to make me watch that, right? And so I look at some of the things you and Terance put out. It’s cool to me. It’s like watching The Young and the Restless. It’s entertainment. When I ain’t got nothing to do, and I’m just laying there at night trying to think about a third down, sometimes I’ll scroll and look at the lies y’all telling, trying to see if you’re on the right path or not.”
