Veteran pitcher Zack Wheeler took the mound for the 27th time this season for the Philadelphia Phillies' matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. He achieved an impressive feat early in the contest, after recording his 2,000th career strikeout to end the first inning.
The 36-year-old right-hander needed three strikeouts to reach No. 2,000. He got all three of them right off the jump against the Brewers after ending the inning with a beautiful four-seamer up and high that got Brice Turang to swing and miss. The announcers gave Wheeler a shoutout for finally reaching the 2,000-strikeout club.
