The Pittsburgh Penguins hope to put another memorable season together in 2026-27. Pittsburgh is getting a concerning injury update, about two of their players.

“Forwards Blake Lizotte (upper-body) and Oliver Okuliar (lower-body) will not participate in training camp today. Both player injuries are considered week-to-week,” the team announced Tuesday on X, formerly Twitter.

Lizotte is a role player for the Penguins, who played in 55 regular season games for the team last season. He posted 19 points. He has appeared in 434 career regular season games in the NHL, with 55 career goals.

This injury shakes some things up on the Penguins roster.

“Most notably, the Penguins will need to figure out who their fourth line forward will be. Tristan Broz and Hendrix Lapierre figure to be the two biggest potential names to watch as players who have been working at the center position in camp. Others like Connor Dewar have also filled in at center recently, which could lead the team into yet another direction if they want to take it for how to handle the news on Lizotte,” Pensburgh reported.

The other player listed in this report, Okuliar, is from Slovakia. He is a winger who hasn't posted any stats yet in the NHL.

The Penguins posted 98 regular season points during the 2025-26 campaign. Pittsburgh hopes to build on that success, and make a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year. The Penguins return veteran leaders Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.

Pittsburgh made the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season. The Penguins lost a disappointing first round series to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Pittsburgh plays a NHL preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. The Pens won a preseason game Monday against the Buffalo Sabres.
