Right-hander Walker Buehler has returned from the paternity list and will take the place of righty Randy Vásquez on the Padres roster, the team announced on Monday.
Buehler had been a candidate to start Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Brewers, but Robbie Ray got the nod. Manager Craig Stammen said that decision was made in advance of Buehler landing on the paternity list.
San Diego heads back to Petco Park for Tuesday's Game 3 vs. Milwaukee having dropped the first two games of the best-of-5 series. Nick Pivetta is slated to start for the Friars.
Buehler went 9-6 with a 4.63 ERA in 32 starts for the Padres in 2026.
