The San Diego Padres have an update on reliever Jason Adam as the team continues its postseason push. With eight regular-season games remaining, San Diego holds a five-game advantage over the Arizona Diamondbacks for the National League's final Wild Card position. The Padres have also won 10 of their last 11 games and 12 of 15 in September, giving them a 96.0% postseason probability, according to FanGraphs.

Adam began a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Sept. 13 after being out of action since July 2 with a shoulder strain. The 35-year-old is expected to rejoin the Padres in late September.

On Friday, Adam pitched the seventh inning when El Paso's suspended game against the Sacramento River Cats resumed. He surrendered four runs on three hits and one walk while recording only one out in a 14-7 loss. The right-hander allowed a leadoff home run and a triple, issued a walk and recorded one strikeout before being removed. He threw 18 pitches, with 10 going for strikes.

That performance came after an even difficult appearance on Wednesday. Adam gave up five runs on four hits and a walk without recording an out. His first rehab appearance on Sunday had gone much better, as he struck out one batter during a perfect inning.

Adam is still averaging 93 mph with his four-seam fastball, which matches his velocity this season but is approximately one mph lower than last year's All-Star campaign.

Before his shoulder injury, Adam had logged in a 2.51 ERA across 32⅓ innings this season. He had also compiled a 1.94 ERA over 139 innings during the 2024-25 seasons. His 2026 campaign began on the injured list while he recovered from season-ending quad surgery last year.
