It was ugly, but the Green Bay Packers managed to hack out a win over the New York Jets in overtime, 20-17, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. The Packers rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to complete the victory, with Trey Smack kicking the game-winning field goal from 26 yards.
Jordan Love was also instrumental in the comeback, providing steadiness and accuracy in the closing frame. He also had to shake off an injury scare with his throwing hand. Love went 16-of-29 for 145 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He was sacked three times.
The Packers ended a six-game losing streak dating back to last season. While they pulled out the win and displayed their resolve, an anonymous executive offered a skeptical assessment, as reported by The Athletic's Mike Sando.
âÂÂThe Packers, I just feel, are broken. There is something wrong there. I feel like when itâÂÂs tight, the quarterback struggles. You just feel it. He throws off his back foot. Then, of course, they are missing Micah Parsons. When they get him back, that can give them some juice,â said the unnamed source.
Green Bay bowed to the Minnesota Vikings, 39-22, in Week 1. Love went 21-of-42 for 387 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He was sacked four times.
Parsons, meanwhile, is still recovering from a torn ACL. He is expected to return either in Week 5 or Week 6.
In a report from the Associated Press' Dennis Waszak Jr., Love acknowledged that their escape versus the Jets âÂÂwasn't pretty,â but he touted their spirit. He added that they have a lot to clean up, especially after getting whistled for 14 penalties for 133 yards.
âÂÂIn two weeks, we've had a lot of penalties that have put us back. Those are things that stop drives, put you behind the sticks. It's tough to overcome,â said the seventh-year quarterback.
The Packers will battle the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday.
