With the San Francisco 49ers taking their first loss against the Atlanta Falcons this past Sunday, 29-20, the team is still in ample position to compete this season, though they could also make some additions before the league's trade deadline on Nov. 10. As the 49ers look to avoid the issues that cost the Falcons the upset, this team insider connects the team to two stars that could provide an immediate impact to the team.

In the latest column by Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard, he says that San Francisco is “encouraged” by the progression of left guard Connor Colby, but also “frustrated when he occasionally gets roasted.” This is why the potential of the Indianapolis Colts selling off key pieces, like star offensive lineman Quenton Nelson, could make it a “perfect fit” in San Francisco, though the cost would be high.

“It seems like a perfect fit — Nelson is still only 30 and the idea of him lining him next to Trent Williams on the left side of the 49ers’ line would not be pleasing for any 49ers opponent,” Kawakami wrote Sunday.

“But it’d take a lot of trade capital, and even more long-term money to make this workable, and the 49ers have never valued guards like that,” Kawakami continued.

Could the 49ers target Garrett Wilson?

When it comes to a wide receiver that the 49ers can target, as the players on the team have dealt with injuries, Kawakami targets New York Jets star Garrett Wilson.

“Could the 49ers make a call for the Jets’ star Garrett Wilson? Maybe,” Kawakami continued Monday. “He’d be a great long-term WR1. But they’ve got Evans in that role now and maybe for another year. And acquiring Wilson would take a first-round pick that the 49ers might already be earmarking for a defensive lineman.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen how active the 49ers will be ahead of the trade deadline and if Nelson or Wilson will be on the team's radar, as the team looks to get back in the winning column on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
