Hollywood actor Neil Patrick Harris recently opened up about watching WWE as a young kid and growing up. However, in his usual sense of humor, Harris revealed that he knew he was gay because he liked watching WWE, where wrestlers wore tight shorts and were oiled up while grappling with each other.

Speaking to Sam Roberts of SiriusXM, Harris was asked about pro-wrestling. The How I Met Your Mother actor revealed that he “secretly liked WWE,” while growing up. “I secretly liked the WWE when I was younger, because it was kind of a tell for knowing I was gonna be gay.” He shared.

“It was just, like, tight shorts; they’re oiled up. Grappling. So it’s like, I’m not supposed to be liking this as much as I am,” he added. “[When you were doing Doogie Howser, you liked WWE?] A little bit, yeah. It was sort of that same, and Masters of the Universe. I collected those dudes,” Harris also shared.

A part of several successful projects, Harris currently has a new comedy film, Sunny Dancer, releasing in the U.S. on Sept. 18, 2026.

Harris, a major public figure, came out as gay in Nov. 2006 through a statement to People. He was soon embraced by the industry. Similar to Harris, WWE also has several wrestlers from the LGBTQ+ community. Over the years, several wrestlers from the community have been a part of the roster, namely, Indi Hartwell, Darren Young, Gabbi Tuft, Shayna Baszler, Sonya Deville, Tegan Nox, Pat Patterson, and others.
