Kawhi Leonard is back in a familiar place as he will enter his second stint with the Toronto Raptors. Leonard wants to put all the summer brouhaha behind him and focus on giving the Raptors their second title.

Leonard's return to Toronto will be made official in the coming days. His move hit a major snag following the revelation of his involvement in the Los Angeles Clippers' illicit deals with a now-defunct sustainability company.

ESPN's Shams Charania revealed that the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Detroit Pistons wanted to trade for the 35-year-old forward and sign him to a contract extension. Yet Leonard wanted to return to the Raptors.

“Him going back to Toronto is a complete legacy play for Kawhi,” said Charania on TSN's “OverDrive.”

“He made the decision because he had one year left on his deal to essentially weed out where he wanted to play, where he wanted to be. So this is a legacy play for Kawhi Leonard. There's no doubt about it.”

It is unclear who the Timberwolves and the Pistons tried to offer for the two-time Finals MVP. Among their notable additions, Minnesota acquired LaMelo Ball and Jonathan Kuminga, while Detroit landed John Collins and Isaiah Joe.

Even though Leonard was embroiled in the huge controversy, Charania said the Raptors and the Clippers remained firm on their agreement.

“It was always gonna be this trade, the same one that was agreed upon back on June 30th. I never got a sense that either side not only wavered in that, but wavered overall on the deal, even within the first several hours of the league's punishment,” added Charania.

Leonard led the Raptors to the championship in 2019. He departed after one season to sign with the Clippers.
