One of the most entertaining games of the Week 8 Sunday slate in the NFL was surprisingly played between the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Jets. There wasn't much defense to speak of, but the Raiders eventually escaped with a 38-33 win to get to 4-4 on the season.

On the other side, the Jets are now 2-6 after another frustrating loss and are quickly falling out of AFC playoff contention. The Jets had plenty of chances to win this game, but too many mistakes cost them in the end.

After the game, star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick gave his take on what cost the Jets this game that included a stinging review of what the franchise has become, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.

“I think we had some bad penalties, bad mistakes,” Fitzpatrick said. “Jets being Jets.”

Indeed, the Jets finished with six penalties for 32 yards on Sunday. That's not an astronomical number, but Las Vegas picked up two first downs off of penalties, so those calls came in some of the biggest moments of the game.

But penalties are not at the top of the list for why the Jets ended up losing this game. The New York defense has no answer for Kirk Cousins, Brock Bowers and the Raiders passing game in this one. Las Vegas finished with 238 passing yards on 8.8 yards per pass, and Bowers found the end zone two times in the win.

The Jets have clearly improved from last season, and they are clearly a competent team this season. Some fans and pundits have used that as an endorsement of Aaron Glenn, citing that he has the franchise moving in the right direction even if some talent deficiencies catch up to them more often than not on game day.

But Fitzpatrick's “Jets being Jets” dig after losing on Sunday is an indictment on Glenn. New York continues to lose games based off of silly mistakes and a poor defense, which is supposed to be Glenn's area of expertise. If it doesn't get turned around, there could be a coaching search in the Big Apple this offseason.
