Mike Tomlin’s Minecraft city dominated the internet on Wednesday night.

A few weeks ago, Tomlin revealed in an interview with the “Today” show that he had spent the last 12 years building a city in Minecraft.

On Wednesday night, the future Hall of Fame coach posted a 19-minute video to his new YouTube channel that showcased the very impressive city built in Minecraft.

In order for Tomlin to pull off a very detailed build like this, he has had to have dedicated countless hours to this game. Each structure was built with great detail, as the former coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers certainly showcased an affinity for urban living.

The city had multiple stores including a CVS. The buildings had multi-purpose conference rooms and executive spas. This wasn’t an amateur Minecraft city. And the 19-minute video? Tomlin claims that’s just episode No. 1 and he has more to reveal.

The obvious question that deserves to be asked is how did an active NFL coach have so much time over the last 12 years to build an elaborate online city like this? Tomlin’s Steelers never had a record below .500 during his 19 seasons on the sideline. That’s a damn impressive feat.

But the Steelers struggled to get over the hump in the last several years and haven’t won a playoff game since 2017. That’s ultimately probably what led to his undoing in Pittsburgh, and an attractive job showcasing his personality on NBC probably made it even easier to walk away.

“We were tryna win Super Bowls and Coach T was on Minecraft building cities,” former Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell posted on social media.

Now look.

Tomlin wasn’t dropping touchdowns. He wasn’t missing kicks or busting coverages.

There’s plenty of down time in an NFL season. Bus rides to the airport. Long flights. Then long bus rides to the hotel.

But to Bell’s point, couldn’t Tomlin have been working on game plans? Improving things with position coaches and coordinators?

Regardless, the Minecraft review was fun. We shouldn’t allow facts to get in the way of having a good time, and Tomlin’s Minecraft city was certainly that.

When he stepped down from coaching the Steelers, some folks had thought this would be a one-year stint on television, and then he’d have his choice of organizations to coach. Already, look at all of the winless teams in the NFL who are way too talented to not have a victory entering Week 4.
But Tomlin should stay retired. He belongs to the internet now. This is a very fun side of him, and it’s probably much less stressful than coaching.
