The first domino of the 2027 coaching carousel has fallen. Maryland lost to Rutgers this past weekend, and it seemed like Mike Locksley was destined to be let go. Maryland made a coaching move on Sunday, but it was not Locksley. The Terps let go of defensive coordinator Ted Monachino after the loss, promoting Co-defensive coordinator Aazaar Abudl-Rahim to the job and giving him defensive play-calling duties.

The move to fire Monachino was not enough, though, as Maryland has made another move, per Pete Thamel of ESPN.

“Maryland coach Mike Locksley has been dismissed. Maryland dropped to 2-5 on Saturday after a last-second loss to Rutgers. Locksley is 39-54 overall at Maryland, including his interim stint in 2015. Maryland is on a bye this week,” Thamel posted on X, formerly Twitter.
