With Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs being taken off the commissioner's exempt list, the player is looking to return to the team after a battery case involving a former girlfriend. As the Packers take on the Detroit Lions in Week 7, this NFL insider gives the latest on Jacobs' status for the contest.
While speculation continues on the NFL suspending Jacobs, he is currently eligible to play in Sunday's game and is on track to do so as well, as the 28-year-old has returned to practice.
“Obviously, he has been on the commissioner's exempt list, dealing with a matter involving a significant other,” Rapoport said. Of course, his legal matter was settled several weeks ago, and at that point, it was really just when would the NFL investigation take place?”
“Would they be able to see a video of the incident? They have not,” Rapoport continued. “I would say Jacobs has been preliminarily cleared and is expected to play this week. He is going to practice. He's going to be on the field. They say he has kept in good shape, and the Green Bay Packers, who have had a really solid start to the season, probably could use a little bit of an improved running game, and they get Josh Jacobs in Week 7 to come in and do it.”

The Packers could use Jacobs as the team averages 59.8 rushing yards per game, which is the lowest in the league. Subsequently, in Jacobs' first season with Green Bay, he rushed for 1,329 yards with 15 touchdowns and in 2025, the former first-round pick recorded 929 yards with 13 touchdowns in 15 games.
At any rate, it remains to be seen how the situation with Jacobs develops regarding a future suspension from the NFL.
