The Michigan football program recently fell to 4-3 on the season with a tough overtime home loss at the hands of the Indiana Hoosiers. Offense has been a major struggle for the Wolverines so far this year, with head coach Kyle Whittingham trying to guide the team back into prominence after a couple of down years.

Now, reports have emerged that suggest Whittingham's job could be in jeopardy.

“Athletic director Warde Manuel is on the way out, and first-year coach Kyle Whittingham was a bridge hire. Could that ultimately be only a one-year bridge? It's too early to go that far, but multiple industry sources believe it is at least possible that Michigan could be back in the head-coaching market for a second consecutive cycle,” reported John Talty, Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer of CBS Sports.

Whittingham was brought in after the legal situation of Sherrone Moore brought his tenure as the Michigan head coach to an end in unceremonious fashion last year, and the team hasn't exactly performed at an elite level under his watch so far, having recently benched quarterback Bryce Underwood amid the team's offensive struggles.

Still, it would be quite a shock to see the Wolverines' brass move on from him after just a single season.

“Sources believe Michigan wants to figure out its athletic director search first — it has hired Turnkey ZRG to assist — but aren't ruling out a change at the football coach position, too,” they reported.
