Miami (FL) football rocked the fame 2001 look in its rout of Pittsburgh Saturday. That's the same attire Hurricanes legend Jeremy Shockey wore during that 2001 national title run.
Shockey pulled into Hard Rock Stadium to celebrate the 25th anniversary of that revered Hurricanes team. But the legendary Miami tight end shined a light instead on the 2026-27 one.
The past Pro Bowl tight end revealed what he loves about this Miami bunch.
“I think the efficiency on offense [because] they score a lot of points. Then the takeaways on defense. But the thing I see the most is they have that dog in them again,” Shockey said. “They have that fight.”

Shockey's Miami team certainly brought that element to the field. The Hurricanes trounced every opponent with the exception of Virginia Tech and Boston College, beating both by 11 points or less.

He and the ‘Canes celebrated capturing the national title with a 37-14 trouncing of the Nebraska Cornhuskers at the Rose Bowl. Shockey led that championship winning team with 40 receptions for 519 yards and scored seven touchdowns.
That Miami squad became the final Big East Conference champion before those teams formed the American Athletic Conference. Now Miami holds the title of becoming the last Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) team to play for the national crown.
Shockey clearly sees how this Miami team is on a mission under coach Mario Cristobal. Quarterback Darian Mensah and wide receiver Malachi Toney have ignited the Hurricanes' rise to No. 1 in the top 25. And this Miami team is fueling new championship talk right in front of its last title winning team.
