The Los Angeles Dodgers will have a good chance of re-signing Tarik Skubal. However, the New York Mets should not be overlooked in the Skubal free agency sweepstakes. New York has the money to make it happen, and the team also seemingly has the desire.
“Skubal to the Mets? Maybe,” MLB insider Jon Heyman said Wednesday, via B/R Walk-Off. “They certainly are very interested… There's no question about that. There are hurdles there, though… Maybe it's better for them to try to get it done now before there is a cap. Not suggesting that there will be a cap because we're not sure about that, but maybe it's better to do it now.
“On the other hand, maybe that threat of the cap and then having to go backward when you have Skubal and (Juan) Soto… There are a lot of things to think about. They are very interested.”
Juan Soto signed a 15-year, $765 million contract ahead of the 2025 season. There's a realistic chance that Skubal could sign for around $400 million.

New York may decide to go all in on a Tarik Skubal free agency pursuit and figure out the rest later if he does sign with them. Only time will tell if they go all in, but Heyman's report confirms that there is legitimate interest from the Mets in Skubal.
