Although Southern University pulled off a 50-31 victory over Louisiana Christian, Marshall Faulk was not happy with his team, and said he would cut and fire them if he could.

"If this was a league where I can cut and fire players, I would."

In comments obtained by Kevin Batiste of WAFB 9, Faulk expressed frustration over several mistakes in the game. Specifically, he zeroed in on special-teams issues and a surprise onside kick that Southern wasn't fully ready for.

“I mean, if this was a league where I could cut and fire players, I would. You know? I'm just being truthful to you. Like, literally we practice that every d*mn day. We talk about it. We were talking about it before it happened, and it's just…it has to be a concern and a priority to the guys on the front line, and it's just not. And guess what? We're gonna see it again. We're gonna see it again. If I was playing us, I would do it on the first kickoff. Like, literally,”

Despite the criticism from Faulk, the Jaguars had an impressive outing on Saturday. Trey Holly rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries, with fellow Southern running back Mike Franklin adding 130 yards on 15 carries. Christian Johnson had a phenomenal game, throwing for 170 yards and four touchdowns on 16 of 22 passing attempts, and also rushing for one touchdown.

Marshall Faulk and Southern University now gear up to play rival Jackson State in the Boombox Classic. The game will be the latest test for Faulk's first-year team, following their early-season loss to Alabama State University
