The Toronto Maple Leafs have begun their 2026-27 NHL season. They were not the first team playing on Tuesday night's opening slate of games. But thanks to William Nylander, they have the first goal of the new season.

Nylander collected the puck at the blue line, allowing his team to remain onside. He walked up along the wall and fired a shot on Montreal Canadiens goalie Jakub Dobes. Nylander's shot went past the Montreal netminder, giving Toronto a 1-0 lead.
