LOS ANGELES — The LA Clippers held their Media Day Monday at Intuit Dome, where reporters were going to heavily focus on the franchise's response to the NBA's punishment for the salary cap circumvention scandal. And while that was the headliner, the main takeaways are that the Clippers are not entering camp anywhere close to 100 percent.
The team provided injury updates on a number of their players on Monday, with the most stunning announcement coming with regards to Brandon Ingram.
The two-time NBA All-Star underwent surgery in May to address heel pain that he was dealing with towards the end of the regular season and playoffs. During that operation, however, a partially torn Achilles tendon was discovered and repaired.
Now, Ingram's recovery has extended into the regular season, as he is a very limited participant in Clippers training camp in Hawaii.
“My recovery has been going good,” Ingram said during Monday's NBA media day. “I feel good about the spot that I'm in right now, recovering form this surgery. I wont be participating in training camp much, but I'll be out there a little bit. I think it's a week by week thing, just trying to see when I'm going to be returning to play.”
Ingram has started doing on-court work, and was seen continuing to do so during day one of training camp on Tuesday.
Article Continues BelowBrandon Ingram played 77 games last season for the Toronto Raptors, the most since his rookie season with the Lakers. He also averaged 33.8 minutes a night, playing 325 more minutes in the 2025-26 season than any other season of his career. By the end of the year, however, the increased workload appeared to catch up to him.
Ingram was named an NBA All-Star last season while leading the Raptors to a 46-36 record. In his 77 appearances, Ingram averaged 21.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from three.
The Clippers will be in Hawaii in all week, concluding their work vacation with a game against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, October 4th. They'll play two more preseason games after that — one in Vancouver and the other in Los Angeles — to wrap up their preseason schedule.
Ingram isn't expected to be ready to play anytime soon, but a six-to-seven month recovery timetable from his May surgery would place his returns sometime in November or early December.
The Clippers have three preseason games before tipping off their regular season on October 21st at home against the Sacramento Kings. While Ingram isn't expected to be ready for that game, he'll be hard at work behind the scenes and is expected to have his status updated around opening night.
