After getting absolutely gashed in an embarrassing routing on Monday Night Football against the Chicago Bears, the Philadelphia Eagles are shoring up their secondary in a major way, officially signing Kenny Moore II to their active 53-man roster.
Breaking the news on social media, ESPN's Tim McManus revealed that Moore II's time on the practice squad would be short-lived, as he was heading right to the 53-man roster to report for duty.
“The Eagles signed DB Kenny Moore II to the active roster,” McManus wrote.
One of the more successful interior cornerbacks in the NFL between 2018 and 2024, Moore II has almost exclusively spent his time in the slot at the NFL level, playing 4,650 on the inside versus just 927 in the box and 57 deployed deep as a member of the Indianapolis Colts, according to Pro Football Focus. The Eagles have an abundance of slot cornerback options, from the best in the NFL, Cooper DeJean, to Michael Carter II, and even 2025 fifth-round pick Mac McWilliams, so if Moore II is solely viewed through that lens, this deal is a tad confusing.
And yet, in the NFL, there's a long history of very good cornerbacks who transition to safety as they get older, with Charles Woodson serving as the gold standard and old Eagles Pro Bowler Malcom Jenkins another shining example.
After watching Marcus Epps and Andrew Mukuba struggle to hit their spots in Week 3 against the Bears, who knows? Maybe Moore II can take the success he had in the slot and slide back a few yards to do it at safety too, putting those 135 NFL games of experience to good use just like Case Keenum's incredible effort on Monday Night Football.
