The Cowboys have been hit hard by injuries in their secondary, which is why they had four defensive backs in town to workout.
They worked out defensive backs Juanyeh Thomas, Alex Austin, Shemar Bartholomew and Tyrek Funderburk as well as linebacker Germaine Pratt on Tuesday.
They are signing Austin, a cornerback, to the practice squad, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. They are also signing Thomas, a safety, according to Jordan Schultz of The Schultz Report. It is unclear whether Thomas is signing with the active roster or the practice squad.
Austin, a seventh-round pick of the Bills in 2023, has played games for the Patriots and Texans. He has played 29 games with six starts and has 31 tackles, eight passes defensed and an interception.
Thomas signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He has appeared in 36 games, recording 62 tackles, five passes defensed and a forced fumble.
Cowboys safeties Malik Hooker (fractured forearm) and P.J. Locke (foot) are on injured reserve, and Jalen Thompson (hamstring) will head there this week. Cornerbacks Shavon Revel (knee/ankle) and Cobie Durant (hamstring) also are injured.
