Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow on the final play of the first half during Sunday night's 37-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

The 25-year-old sustained the same type of elbow injury during Week 9 of last season. He missed four games before returning in Week 14, only to reinjure the elbow in that game and miss the final four contests of the season.

The Commanders announced on Monday that Daniels' X-rays were negative. However, Washington has not yet determined the quarterback's recovery plan. Head coach Dan Quinn said Daniels is scheduled to see specialists on Tuesday and on Wednesday as the team works to establish the appropriate course of action.

While the Commanders continue to search for more clarity, an unexpected source offered an update on Daniels: Earvin “Magic” Johnson. The Los Angeles Lakers legend revealed how Daniels was feeling after speaking directly with him.

Johnson, a minority owner of the Commanders who has built a close relationship with Daniels since Washington selected him No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, revealed the quarterback remains in good spirits.

“I just had a good check-in call with our @Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels! I was happy to hear that he's in good spirits, and I’m praying for a safe and healthy recovery,” Johnson wrote in an X post Monday.

The injury came after Daniels had shown flashes of his 2024 form during the first half against the Cowboys. On the Commanders final possession before halftime, he rushed for 24 yards and added 27 passing yards, including a 10-yard completion to Stefon Diggs on third-and-6.

Daniels' latest setback comes after he missed 10 games last season because of three separate injuries.

Washington, now 0-2, will next face the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in its home opener Sunday. With Daniels likely unavailable, Marcus Mariota is expected to start versus the Seahawks.

The Commanders are now awaiting the results of Daniels' specialist evaluations before determining what comes next for their starting quarterback.
