The Detroit Lions got back on track in Week 3. Detroit took down New York 31-24 on Sunday to improve to 2-1 on the season. One Lions players just jokingly put one of his former coaches on blast after recent comments made to the media.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff was the guest on the latest episode of the St. Brown Podcast. He revealed what his former head coach Ben Johnson told him after making a joke at his expense after Monday Night Football.
“Ben can't seem to get out of his own way when he's talking to the media. So I know there was no ill intent to that,” Goff said. “But, you know, he seems to be a lightning rod for them, they pick up everything he says.”
Goff added that Johnson called him the next day and made it clear that he meant no disrespect with his comment.
Johnson joked about having experience coaching a quarterback who is not mobile after winning with Case Keenum on Monday Night Football.
“Well, I've got a little history with that, of calling plays for someone not so mobile,” Johnson joked with reporters after the game. “Now I don't have a history with someone that's not a number one pick though.”
Goff also said that he'll need to come up with some excuse to call Johnson and apologize in the future.
“I'll have to throw something his way at some point. Where I'm like like yeah whatever, but like play caller blah blah blah,” Goff concluded. “And I'll call him and be like dude, you know I'm just kidding. You know I mean nothing by it.”
Unfortunately, Goff will have to patiently wait for his next opportunity to square off against his former coach. The Lions and Bears play their first game of the season on Thanksgiving in Week 12. After that, they play each other again in Week 17 at Soldier Field.
In the meantime, Detroit is gearing up to play on Sunday Night Football against Carolina in Week 4.
