The Detroit Lions bumped their record up to 3-2 on the season with a 45-21 road win over the Arizona Cardinals that included a left forearm injury to linebacker Devin White. White was carted off the field on a day when the offense thrived and Kelvin Sheppard's defense was placed under a microscope.

Lions coach Dan Campbell addressed White's injury fate in comments shared by ESPN's Ian Rapoport.

“Doesn't look good. I think Devin's gonna need surgery, broken forearm, and I hate it,” Campbell said. “Cuz he was doing some good things for us in this game.”

White has two games played with Detroit this season including two games started, and nine tackles. He is a former fifth overall draft choice of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2019 who had begun tapping into his enormous natural football talents on Sheppard's unit.

Sheppard's defense got Brian Branch back at practice leading up to the game, but he did not play against Arizona as the Lions' Drew Petzing, Jared Goff and Jahmyr Gibbs led offense stole the show. Petzing helped the Lions score 45 points against his former team, including 412 total yards. Goff completed 19-of-30 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns while Gibbs ran 26 times for 151 yards on a record-setting day as he surpassed Barry Sanders for most touchdowns (58) by any player before age 25.

The Lions appeared to find themselves again on a day when they also lost a promising young defender. Week 6 at home against Green Bay will reveal more about Campbell's team, and Sheppard's defense, but for now, the Lions are content to rest and take stock of their current situation.
