Among the many who are taking Macklemore's side after getting kicked off Ed Sheeran's tour, thanks in large part to New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, is Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton.

He responded to the rapper's post on Instagram from Monday, Sep. 14. Hamilton said, “Thank you for using your voice, standing with you.”

The Formula 1 driver was among the many celebrities who “liked” or commented on the post. Macklemore explained his side of the story after being removed from Sheeran's tour.

Why was Macklemore kicked off Ed Sheeran's tour?

Macklemore was dropped from Sheeran's tour after going on political rants during concerts on Sep. 4 and 5 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. During his rant, he exclaimed “Free Palestine,” which caused a stir.

Since Macklemore's exit, Sheeran's backing band, Beoga, left the tour. His remaining openers, Aaron Rowe, Lukas Graham, and Finneas, also dropped out.

That leaves Sheeran without any opening acts for the remaining dates of his Loop Tour, which is about to resume on Saturday, Sep. 19, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Macklemore claimed that Kraft called Sheeran after the New Jersey concerts, giving him an “ultimatum.” Kraft wasn't going to allow Macklemore to perform at his venue, Gillette Stadium, and if Sheeran kept him on the tour, he wouldn't let the “Shape of You” singer perform either.

The rapper believed that Kraft's call put Sheeran in a “f****d up position,” saying, his “typical apolitical stance was being challenged in a way it never had been before.”

Ultimately, Sheeran removed Macklemore from the tour. He still has 10 dates remaining on the North American leg of his Loop Tour, including two nights at Kraft's Gillette Stadium.

The Loop Tour is in support of Sheeran's eighth studio album, Play. It commenced on Jan. 16, 2026, and will conclude after 59 shows on Dec. 12 in Mexico City, Mexico.
