LeBron James remains uncertain about his exact offensive role with the Philadelphia 76ers, but the 41-year-old made it clear Saturday that he is willing to adapt to whatever the team needs.
Following Philadelphia's Blue x White Scrimmage, James was asked whether his role had become clearer after nearly a week of practice with his new teammates. The 76ers are still working through how their star-studded roster will operate offensively heading into the 2026-27 NBA season.
Adam Aaronson of PhillyVoice shared James' response via X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Whatever. It doesn’t matter to me.”
Aaronson reported that James said the specifics of his role still need to be ironed out but reiterated his willingness to fit wherever necessary.
That flexibility could prove important as Philadelphia works to establish an offensive hierarchy featuring James alongside Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey. Each player is capable of carrying a significant offensive workload, leaving the 76ers with several options as they develop chemistry under game conditions.

Philadelphia will get its first opportunity to test those combinations Monday when it opens preseason play against the reigning NBA champion New York Knicks at 7 p.m. ET on NBA TV.
James also addressed how the 76ers should balance getting meaningful preseason repetitions with preserving their veteran players for the regular season.
“It is important for us to do a little bit of both [playing and resting],” James said.
James added that getting on the court could help the team establish “some rhythm,” but he does not believe it is worth overdoing during the preseason.
The approach carries added significance for James as he prepares for his historic 24th NBA season. Philadelphia's preseason will provide an opportunity to determine how he fits alongside the team's other stars without unnecessarily increasing his workload before the games begin to count.
