LeBron James already had experience playing alongside Joel Embiid before joining the Philadelphia 76ers, but he has noticed one significant difference in his new teammate since their time together at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Following the 76ers' Blue x White Scrimmage on Saturday, James said Embiid is significantly healthier now than he was when the two stars played together for Team USA two years ago.
Adam Aaronson of PhillyVoice shared James' comments via X, formerly known as Twitter.
“The difference between ‘24 and now,” James said, is that Embiid is much healthier.
James also explained that their previous experience together has made developing chemistry in Philadelphia an easier process.
“It’s been good. Actually, it’s been great.”
James and Embiid helped the United States win the gold medal at the Paris Olympics, giving the two stars an opportunity to learn how to play alongside each other well before they became teammates in Philadelphia.

Their familiarity could prove valuable for a 76ers roster undergoing significant changes ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Philadelphia added James and Jaylen Brown to a core already featuring Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, creating a lineup filled with players accustomed to having significant offensive roles. Developing chemistry between those stars has been one of the team's primary tasks during training camp.
Embiid's health will also remain a major factor in Philadelphia's championship aspirations. James' observation provides an encouraging early sign as the 76ers prepare to transition from training camp into preseason action.
Philadelphia will open its preseason schedule Monday against the reigning NBA champion New York Knicks at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
While James and Embiid still have to develop their partnership within Philadelphia's system, their shared Olympic experience has given them a head start. More importantly for James, he is now working alongside a healthier version of the 76ers' longtime star.
