The Pittsburgh Steelers lost a disappointing game to the New England Patriots, in Week 2 of the NFL season. Following that game, former Steeler Le'Veon Bell criticized Pittsburgh wide receiver DK Metcalf on social media.

“Somebody tell me what DK did to get paid so much by pittsburgh!!!! bro can’t catch for s**t,” Bell posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Bell, a former running back in the NFL, played for the Steelers from 2013-2018. He then went on to play with the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His last NFL season was with Tampa in 2021.

That post from Bell got a lot of attention, including from the news outlet Sports Illustrated. Metcalf finished the Patriots game with four catches for 27 yards.

“So, the Steelers' only option is for Metcalf to figure things out. Drops aren't anything new for the veteran wideout. He's always been one of the freakiest athletes in the league, but has never been the most reliable in terms of catching the football. Then, when drops start to happen, they seem to build,” Sports Illustrated reported.

On the season, Metcalf has eight receptions for 67 yards. He has yet to catch a touchdown pass.

Steelers looking for success under new leadership

Pittsburgh has a new head coach this season in Mike McCarthy. McCarthy replaced Mike Tomlin, who stepped down following the 2025 campaign. Steelers fans expect McCarthy to win right away, especially as Tomlin had never posted a losing season in his tenure.

The Steelers play the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday in Week 3. Cincinnati enters the game undefeated this year at 2-0.
