In an extremely strange coincidence, Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic goes off and has monster stats whenever Lula wins the Brazilian runoff elections.
Mike Vorkunov pointed this out on X, formerly Twitter. Four years ago, on Oct. 30, 2022, Lula won the runoff election in Brazil. That night, Doncic—who was still on the Dallas Mavericks at the time—scored 44 points and had five assists against the Orlando Magic.
Four years later, on Oct. 25, 2026, Lula once again won the runoff election in Brazil. Doncic proceeded to score 52 points and log eight assists in the Lakers' win over the Utah Jazz.
Luka Doncic is on a tear to start the Lakers' season

The Lakers are undefeated three games into the 2026-27 NBA season. Doncic has picked up where he left off last year and is now the undisputed leader of the team after LeBron James' departure.
Currently, he is averaging 34.3 points per game, which is the second most in the NBA. Ty Jerome of the Memphis Grizzlies narrowly edges him out, averaging 34.7 points per game. Doncic is also averaging 7.3 rebounds and eight assists per game.

Doncic was picked with the third pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks, who traded him to the Mavericks. He was named Rookie of the Year for his efforts in his first season and was named to the All-Rookie First Team.
Since his rookie year success, Doncic has made it to six All-Star teams and six All-NBA First Teams. Additionally, he has been the NBA scoring champion twice and was the Western Conference Finals MVP. However, he has yet to win a championship in the NBA. Through three games, the Lakers look like a force to be reckoned with. We'll see if they can keep it up.
