Kamario Taylor was a Heisman candidate early in the season. He led Mississippi State to a 4-0 start before facing Alabama. Taylor was injured in the loss to Alabama and then missed the game against LSU. The quarterback returned this week against Oklahoma, but Taylor lasted just one quarter for Mississippi State before leaving again with an injury.

Now, head coach Jeff Lebby is giving an update on his quarterback, per Sam Sklar of The Clarion Ledger.

“We're still in the process of looking at everything,” Lebby said. “He is doing good. His spirits are good, but as we continue to move forward, I think we'll know a lot more here in the next 48 hours.”

Taylor completed two of five passes against Oklahoma for ten yards before leaving the game. Parker Puckett took over for Taylor, completing 17 of 24 passes for 158 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Oklahoma would win the game 23-15.

The Bulldogs did have some positive news on the injury front in the game. They welcomed back Fluff Bothwell, who was also injured against Alabama after just one carry. Bothwell ran 17 times for 111 yards in the contest.

Lebby also announced that linebacker Jalen Smith would miss the rest of the season as well. Smith, like Taylor and Bothwell, was injured in the game against Alabama. It was announced he needed surgery, but the nature of the injury was not revealed.

Mississippi State has now lost three straight games. They will look to get back into the win column on Saturday when they visit Texas.
