Sacramento Kings rookie guard Darius Acuff Jr. reached a historic milestone in Sunday night's 123-112 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, setting a new NBA record for field-goal attempts through a player's first three career games.

The seventh overall pick has attempted 73 shots to begin his professional career, surpassing Kevin Durant's previous mark of 64, set during the 2006-07 season. Moreover, he became the first player in the league's history to attempt at least 20 shots in each of his first three career games, finishing with 24 against the Los Angeles Clippers, 26 versus the Portland Trail Blazers and 23 against Memphis.

While the 19-year-old has received plenty of opportunities offensively, his shooting efficiency has left much to be desired. He has made just 24 of his 73 field-goal attempts, shooting 32.9% from the floor. His three-point numbers have been even less productive, with only four successful shots on 27 attempts, resulting in a 14.8% conversion rate.

Against the Grizzlies, Acuff recorded 22 points and seven assists while shooting 9-of-23 from the field. He also had just one turnover, showing improvement in his decision-making. However, he went 2-of-9 from beyond the arc and was inefficient in the fourth quarter, making only two of his 10 attempts.

Acuff was not the only Sacramento player to produce offensively on Sunday. Zach LaVine scored 37 points on 13-of-25 shooting and added five assists, while Domantas Sabonis contributed 15 points and 15 rebounds. Precious Achiuwa, making his first start of the season in place of Keegan Murray, posted 12 points, 10 rebounds and two steals.

Memphis emerged victorious behind Ty Jerome's 31 points, including a perfect 14-of-14 performance at the free-throw line. Cameron Boozer amassed 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Cedric Coward compiled 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Kings defensive woes also continued, as they surrendered 42 points in the second quarter and allowed the Grizzlies to make 15 of 40 three-point attempts. The defeat dropped Sacramento to 0-3, with opponents averaging 124 points per game across its opening three contests.

The Kings will next face the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.
