With four games left in the regular season, the Indiana Fever are still battling for positioning in the standings with the WNBA playoffs set to begin at the end of the month. The Fever have championship aspirations, and a big reason why has been the historic season from All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell.

No matter where the Fever end up in the standings heading into the WNBA playoffs, Kelsey Mitchell stressed the importance of not dwelling on hypotheticals and just showing up ready to play each and every night, as per James Boyd of The Athletic.

“It’s humbling, I’m grateful. I’m happy our group stayed down this season. It’s not easy. We played against some really great teams, some great players individually,” Mitchell said. “It’s a gut check. And I think you just got to be mindful of what you can do. Give it to God. I can’t dwell on what could happen or what’s gonna happen, all I can do is keep showing up.”

As it stands, the Fever are 26-14 and in fifth place in the league standings. They are essentially tied with the Atlanta Dream record-wise for the fourth spot and homecourt advantage in the opening round of the postseason. They’re only two games up though on the New York Liberty, Washington Mystics and Dallas Wings with each team having four games remaining on schedule. All of them have already clinched a playoff spot, the final seeding order is all that’s left to be determined.

Mitchell is coming off her fourth consecutive All-Star appearance and has played in all 40 games for the Fever to this point. She’s averaging a career-best 25.0 points, 1.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals with splits of 51.3 percent shooting from the field, 45.5 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 84.2 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
