The New York Jets are going through rough times on the football field. New York has a 2-5 record as the 2026 NFL Trade Deadline approaches. Players within the locker room are expressing their frustrations as well.
One player who has expressed frustration is cornerback Nahshon Wright. The veteran corner joined the Jets this offseason after picking off five passes for the Bears last year. However, he hasn't played a snap on defense. Wright made it known that while he hasn't requested a trade, he isn't opposed to it, either.
“Not formally.” Wright told ESPN's Rich Cimini when asked if he requested a trade. “I've expressed my feelings [to the team]. I think I've earned that right.”
Wright is in the midst of his fifth season in the NFL. The 28-year-old signed a one-year contract in the spring. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury in training camp, forcing him to miss time. He has not been able to find a consistent role on the defense since.
The Jets defense has actually played quite strong in 2026. New York has allowed the ninth-fewest yards per game this season. Their strength is against the pass. New York has allowed the fifth-fewest passing yards per game. They are not as good against the run, however.
Wright has shown that he can be a solid contributor on defense, though. With another round of free agency looming this spring, it makes sense that he wants to play. Right now, playing is the most important thing.

The Jets are in action again on Sunday when they take on the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8.
