The New York Yankees placed Aaron Judge on the 10-day injured list with a calf strain. Judge left WednesdayâÂÂs game against the Minnesota Twins after limping off the field.
The injury comes after he missed nearly four months earlier this season and had only recently returned to the lineup. Speaking on SportsCenter recently, ESPNâÂÂs senior MLB insider Jeff Passan explained the situation the Yankees are dealing with.
âÂÂThis throws everything into flux for the New York Yankees,â Passan said. âÂÂThey've been banking on Aaron JudgeâÂÂs return for months now in hopes that it would wake up an offense that had slumbered since that initial injury toward the end of May, and to see him not just limping out of the game but needing to go on an injured list here, it's devastating, frankly.âÂÂ
JudgeâÂÂs placement can be backdated to Sept. 17 because he last played on Sept. 16. That gives him a chance to return before the end of the regular season, but the timeline leaves little room for a lengthy rehab assignment or extended buildup.
Passan also raised the bigger concern for New York: what Judge will look like if he does make it back for October. âÂÂThey wonder now what, if anything, are they going to get from Aaron Judge in October?â Passan said.
The Yankees also have to account for how much Judge has missed this season. His latest absence follows a lengthy stint on the injured list after he suffered a stress fracture in his right rib in late May.
Manager Aaron Boone has offered no firm timetable for JudgeâÂÂs return, leaving the Yankees waiting for more information while the regular season winds down.
