The Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, and San Francisco 49ers are exploring options to strengthen their receiving corps. Kansas City has already spent weeks pursuing additional help, while the other two teams have also emerged as potential buyers before Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that all three teams are making calls about available receivers. He identified Brian Thomas Jr., Josh Downs and Calvin Ridley as names worth monitoring.
Pelissero also expects multiple wide receivers to change teams before the deadline. However, he did not identify specific negotiations connecting each player to those three franchises.
Thomas offers significant upside after emerging as an explosive playmaker with the Jacksonville Jaguars. His speed and downfield ability could appeal to teams seeking another dangerous receiving threat.
Meanwhile, Downs brings reliable route running and versatility from the slot. The Indianapolis Colts receiver has already drawn interest from Kansas City and Pittsburgh, making him another intriguing option.
Ridley presents a different possibility because of his veteran experience. Teams seeking immediate production could consider the established receiver if his current organization entertains offers.
Kansas City needs additional weapons for Patrick Mahomes, particularly after injuries weakened its receiving depth. Pittsburgh could also benefit from another dependable target, while San Francisco continues evaluating its offensive options.
Still, any potential deal would depend on trade compensation and each team's financial flexibility. Clubs must also consider whether acquiring a receiver would provide enough value for the remainder of the season.
With Tuesday's deadline approaching, the receiver market could become increasingly active. Whether Thomas, Downs, or Ridley ultimately moves remains uncertain.
