The ongoing hearing involving Jack Smith has taken a turn after US Senator Eric Schmitt's team made a mistake, accusing him of going to an Atlanta Hawks NBA game and colluding with Fani Willis while he was actually in Maryland for a game against the Iowa Hawkeyes.

During his testimony, Smith recalled seeing Maryland and Iowa play in February 2024. Star guard Caitlin Clark was playing for the Hawkeyes at the time.

Another senator, Amy Klobuchar, said that the confusion over the Hawks and Hawkeyes' team names should've been looked at “more carefully” before it was brought up.

Klobuchar then joked that she is from Minnesota, where their team is the Gophers, and “there's not a lot of confusion” with its name.

Currently, Smith is testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee after he was accused of “abuse of authority,” targeting Republicans. He was questioned for obtaining basic phone records from lawmakers around the time of the Capitol attack on Jan. 6, 2021.

Maryland and Iowa's women's basketball teams met on Feb. 3, 2024. It was an exciting contest, with the Hawkeyes ultimately coming out on top 93-85. Clark went off during the game, scoring 38 points for Iowa. She also made seven three-pointers and had a dozen assists.

This was one of her final games in her collegiate career. Clark went on to be drafted by the Indiana Fever first overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She has become a three-time All-Star and made the All-WNBA First Team in 2024. The Fever will play Game 2 in their playoff series against the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday, Sep. 29. They lost Game 1 on Sunday, Sep. 27, by 17 points. If they lose Game 2, they will be eliminated from the postseason.
