On Sunday morning, the Cincinnati Bengals hit the field for a game in Madrid against the Atlanta Falcons as part of the NFL's international series. Although Cincinnati got off to a relatively sluggish start in this one, they ended up breaking through with a strong second half and winning by a score of 34-17.
This was another excellent game for quarterback Joe Burrow, who completed 24 of his 29 passing attempts, good for 271 yards and three touchdowns against no interceptions.
Burrow has been on an absolute heater of late amid the Bengals' 6-2 record up to this point in the season, and it might well be time to start talking about him as a legit candidate for the NFL MVP award this year.
Burrow didn't see his name come up all that much early in the MVP discussion thanks to a relatively quiet start to this season this year, with the Bengals' new-look defense doing some of the heavy lifting early on for the team.
However, over the last few weeks, the former number one overall draft pick has put together some monster performances and helped guide the Bengals to a tie for the top spot in the AFC North with the Pittsburgh Steelers, with another key matchup between the two teams looming next week.
Through it all, Burrow has put his combination of arm strength, accuracy, and scrambling ability on display, and has also been able to stay healthy, which was a major question mark for him coming into this season.
Of course, he also has the NFL's best wide receiving core, led by arguably its best player at the position in Ja'Marr Chase, at his disposal, but that shouldn't diminish what Burrow has been able to accomplish this year.
In any case, the Bengals will next hit the field next Sunday for a key game against the Steelers, with first place in the division on the line.
