On Saturday evening, the Ole Miss football program was effectively eliminated from the college football playoff race with a blowout 42-7 home loss to the Georgia Bulldogs. The performance was the worst of the Rebels' era under head coach Pete Golding and gave them their third loss of the season, likely taking them out of championship contention this year.
Despite the blowout nature of the loss, Golding found a way to put the blame on the referees, in particular calling out a play in which an Ole Miss interception was wiped out after a controversial roughing the passer call on the Rebels' defense.
“Those definitely don't help, obviously, when you get a turnover and then you get a flag,” Golding said, per Mark Schlaback of ESPN. “The hit was clean, the timing of it and all that. I will be interested to hear the response [from the SEC]. I think it was more of a shoulder drive into the ground, I would assume will be the response.”
Fans in attendance were not thrilled with the call either, at one point hurling trash onto the field, although the game was already entering blowout territory by the time the controversial play occurred, so it's certainly worth wondering how much a different call would have affected the end result.

The Rebels will next hit the field next Saturday on the road against the Oklahoma Sooners.
