There was a surprise in the Ted Lasso Season 4 finale, as Marcus Mumford's iconic theme song was replaced by one by Brandi Carlile.

Fans who have watched the previous 43 episodes are used to hearing Mumford's “The Departing Lass” at the beginning of each episode (with the exception of Season 2 episode “Beard After Hours”). While the song was still played, it was a cover by Carlile.

According to Variety, Jason Sudeikis and Carlile are friends, and he's a big fan of her work. Fellow executive producer and star Brendan Hunt explained the change-up. He bawled the first time he heard Carlile's take on the theme.

“Jason has talked about for a while, that at some point the theme song should be presenting the change and what the show is now, from the men’s team to the women’s team, and we should have it being sung by a woman’s voice,” he explained. “But he wanted the handover to be to be graceful in some way and not just suddenly do it. “I think he just saw this opportunity here and went to and went to Brandi for it.”

This wasn't the first time her voice has been heard in the show. Previously, her cover of “Home” was used in Season 3. It sounds like her rendition of “The Departing Lass” could be the show's new theme song too.

Season 4 of Ted Lasso just concluded on Apple TV on Wednesday, Oct. 7. The fourth season premiered on Aug. 5, 2026, marking the first new episodes in three years.

The iconic Apple TV show seemed to be ending after Season 3. However, Sudeikis and Co. brought it back for a fourth season. This time, Ted Lasso has to coach a women's soccer team. Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Brett Goldstein, and Hunt all return alongside Sudeikis in the fourth season.
