A new study by MyHeritage revealed that Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney is related to the late Hollywood bombshell Marilyn Monroe.

The study (via The Hollywood Reporter) showed that the actresses are ninth cousins, once removed. Sweeney and Monroe share a mutual ancestor, Ezra Perry (c. 1625–1689). According to the study, Perry was an early English settler in Sandwich, Massachusetts.

MyHeritage director of research Roi Mandel called the discovery “incredible.” After all, Sweeney has been compared to Monroe in the past. He raved, “Uncovering their shared branch was incredible, it’s a powerful reminder that humanity is one vast family tree, and when we dig deep, we uncover how remarkably interconnected we all are.”

One of the actresses who previously played Monroe in a project, Dakota Johnson, is also related to her. They are ninth cousins, three times removed.

Sadly, Sweeney and Monroe never got to meet. The latter passed away at 36 in August 1962. Before her death, she starred in movies like Some Like It Hot and The Prince and the Showgirl.

Sweeney first gained notoriety for roles in Everything Sucks!, The Handmaid's Tale, and Sharp Objects. Her breakthrough would come in 2019, when she starred in the first season of Euphoria. The HBO series would continue for two more seasons and a couple of holiday specials. A couple of years after Euphoria began, she starred in the first season of The White Lotus.

On the big screen, she has starred in box office hits like Anyone but You, a rom-com that also featured Glen Powell, and The Housemaid. Her other notable credits include Christy, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Madame Web, Immaculate, and Reality. She will star in the sequel to The Housemaid, The Housemaid's Secret. The movie is slated for a 2027 release.
