The Philadelphia Phillies are gearing up for a postseason run. Philadelphia's pitching is set to lead the way. However, Jesus Luzardo is dealing with an injury and his status for the MLB playoffs is uncertain. Regardless of whether or not Luzardo is able to return for the postseason, Andrew Painter will make a significant impact for the pitching staff.

Painter struggled early in the season and was even demoted to the minor leagues. The right-handed hurler has turned things around since returning to MLB, though, and he's played a pivotal role in recent action. Painter has allowed three earned runs or less in four out of his past five starts.

MLB insider Jon Morosi believes Painter will be especially important in the postseason picture.

“Andrew Painter is one of the most important pitchers in the NL postseason picture. He has a 3.58 ERA in 9 starts since returning to the @Phillies MLB roster on July 31,” Morosi shared on X, formerly Twitter.

The Phillies still have work to do to clinch a postseason spot. They currently hold the second National League Wild Card position, trailing the Chicago Cubs by a half-game for the top spot. Meanwhile, they hold a one-game lead over the San Diego Padres, who have the third and final NL Wild Card position at the moment.

While the Cubs, Phillies and Padres are all in quality positions to earn Wild Card spots, the Arizona Diamondbacks are still in the conversation. They are only 3.5 games back of the final Wild Card position.

The Phillies have multiple goals. They obviously want to avoid falling out of the Wild Card picture. It's more than simply staying afloat, though. This Phillies ball club would love to earn the No. 1 Wild Card spot.

Perhaps Andrew Painter can help them achieve their goals.
