The women of Hulu’s Reasonable Doubt are bringing more than talent and compelling performances to the screen this season. Beyond the courtroom drama and complicated relationships, three actresses from the hit legal series share another off-screen connection: membership in historically Black sororities in the Divine Nine.
Brandee Evans, Pauletta Pearson Washington, and Taylor Polidore Williams are making their mark in entertainment while also representing a legacy of sisterhood, service, and Black excellence. Evans is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, while Washington and Williams are members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
While their roles on Reasonable Doubt place them in the middle of the show's gripping legal battles and personal drama, their sorority affiliations connect them to a tradition that extends far beyond Hollywood. Their presence on the series is another example of the Divine Nine's influence across industries and the continued visibility of Black Greek-letter organizations in entertainment.
Best known for her role as Mercedes Woodbine on the hit Starz series P-Valley, Evans was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta through the Epsilon Kappa Chapter at the University of Memphis. As number 19 on her line, she received the line name “Dramatic EKpression,” a fitting name for an actress who has made a name for herself through powerful performances.
Evans introduced viewers to Reasonable Doubt last season as Monica Wilson, Ozzie's agent, whose storyline revealed that Monica had groomed him from a young age. Her character became central to one of the show's biggest cliffhangers when Monica shot Jax Stewart in the Season 3 finale. The Season 4 premiere confirmed that Jax was the victim, setting the stage for another season of drama and difficult revelations.
Taylor Polidore Williams joins the cast for Season 4 as Brooke Cropper, the second wife of Eric Cropper, played by R&B singer Tank.
Williams is also a proud member of the Divine Nine. According to Watch The Yard, she was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, in spring 2012 through the Alpha Pi Chapter at Clark Atlanta University. She was the ace of her line, the “25 Alluring Acclimations of Agility.”
Although Reasonable Doubt may introduce Williams to a new audience, she is no stranger to television. Over the years, she has appeared in several popular series, including All American: Homecoming, where she portrayed Tootie, and Netflix's Beauty in Black, where she stars as Kimmie Bellarie. With a growing list of roles, Williams continues to establish herself as a force both on and off the screen.
Article Continues BelowRounding out the trio is Pauletta Pearson Washington, who portrays Jax's mother, Ma Lu. Her character's complicated relationship with her daughter has made her someone viewers love to hate, as tensions between the two have remained a recurring part of the series.
Following the events of the Season 3 finale, which left Jax fighting to recover after being shot by Monica, the new season presents another opportunity to explore the strained mother-daughter relationship. As Jax navigates her physical and emotional recovery, viewers will have to wait and see whether Ma Lu can repair their relationship and find redemption.
Off-screen, Washington recently celebrated her own milestone. This summer, she became an honorary member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, during the organization's 72nd Boule in Las Vegas, joining a sisterhood with a longstanding history of service, scholarship, and advocacy.
