The Charlotte Hornets will look a little different this season, but they still have some of their young core intact. One of those players happens to be Brandon Miller, who is expected to have a bigger role with the departure of LaMelo Ball, but he definitely showed last season that he's capable of doing so. An extension is coming for Miller, and the latest rumor is that it could be close to $200 million, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.
“Brandon Miller in Charlotte, I believe, will get something done somewhere in the ballpark of Amen Thompson's five-year, $200 million deal,” Fischer said on Bleacher Report.
There's no surprise that Thompson will be the standard for some of the players set to get paid soon, and it wouldn't be a surprise if Miller received that kind of contract. Last season, the forward averaged 20.2 points per game while shooting 38.3 percent from the 3-point line.
With some of the movement that the Hornets had during the offseason, Miller could definitely see a rise in his stats this season, and the team may look to him to be the No. 1 option on offense. He'll also have Kon Knueppel, who was one of the better rookies last season and one of the best shooters.
It's uncertain how the Hornets will perform this season, but adding players like Dennis Schroder, Naz Reid, Grayson Allen, Royce O'Neale and others should help them stay competitive in the Eastern Conference. They had one of the best second-half runs last season, but they weren't able to make it to the playoffs. The hope is that they can build off that momentum and bring it into the beginning of this season to stay in the mix.
It's going to start with Miller, and he may have what it takes to lead the team going into his fourth season.
