The American League standings are heating up with only a few games left for each team in the MLB regular season. While the Tampa Bay Rays clinched the American League East with their 6-1 win over the New York Yankees on Tuesday, the AL Central and AL West still have multiple teams battling for each division title. The 82-75 Cleveland Guardians lead the 81-76 Chicago White Sox by one game in the AL Central while the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros are both 78-79 overall and tied for the AL West lead.
Cleveland squeaked out a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox to earn its sixth consecutive victory on Tuesday. The Guards are doing everything they can to pull away in the division, but Chicago has now won three consecutive games after defeating the Kansas City Royals 14-11.
The Rangers entered play on Tuesday with a one-game lead in the AL West, but a 6-3 loss to the New York Mets and a 7-0 Astros' win over the Seattle Mariners have the division lead all knotted up now.
Article Continues BelowIn the AL Wild Card, the Yankees lead the way with 90 wins. Boston holds the No. 2 seed with 84 victories. The White Sox have the third and final AL Wild Card spot right now.
The only teams still in contention on the outside looking in include the Rangers (3.0 GB), Toronto Blue Jays (4.0 GB) and Baltimore Orioles (5.0 GB). Texas is likely going to need to win the division to reach the postseason, though, while the Blue Jays and Orioles will need to stun the MLB world to end up in the playoffs this year.
