On Thursday, the Dallas Cowboys opted to shake things up by trading for Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. The move comes just days after the Dallas defense gave up a brutal late-game pass play from the Baltimore Ravens that put them in field goal range, where they won the game between the two teams in Rio.

Now, Porter Jr. has spoken after the blockbuster trade went down.

“I was excited, I can’t lie. I was actually at the movies so I had to go home. I’m excited, I’m blessed and I’m ready to go,” he said, per Abby Jones of DLLS Sports on X, formerly Twitter.

Porter Jr. has established himself as a standout cornerback for the Steelers over the last few years, but contract disputes with the team opened the door for him to be traded, as he has yet to appear in a game so far this season.

The star will join a Cowboys defense that hasn't performed as well as fans were hoping on the heels of an offseason in which the front office largely rebuilt that side of the ball after their disastrous performance a year ago. While he might not fix all their problems immediately, having Porter Jr. in the fold will certainly help Dallas out in the secondary as they look to break their trend of giving up huge days to opposing quarterbacks on a weekly basis.

In any case, the Cowboys will next hit the field on Sunday, potentially with Porter Jr. in the lineup, for a tough road game against the desperate 0-3 Houston Texans. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm ET.
